“History
is a prologue and this film informs us about the present 2004
elections. It shows the magic of getting involved in causes greater
than oneself and the power of speaking up and speaking out in
service to one’s country.”
Nancy
Snow, Ph.D. Author and Assistant Professor, College of Communications
at California State University, Fullerton
I wish to express my strongest support for Jo Streit and her documentary
“Flirting with Power.” Her work concerning the Perot
for President campaign of 1992 provides insight into an important
political movement during its early development, and a very exciting
analysis of the trials and tribulations of real people involved
in civic life.
The
campaign represents a milestone in modern political experience
– an independent candidate received nearly 20% of the popular
presidential vote. Perot’s success, one of the greatest
of the century, is an important symbol of discontent within the
electorate, and the story of how his campaign tapped into and
channeled that discontent has great social and political importance.

I
am happy to provide a glowing reference for both the documentary
(Flirting with Power) and for Ms. Streit. Her presentation and
class-led discussion were excellent, and it was obvious that the
students enjoyed and profited from her stimulating presence.
Dr. Frank B. Feigert, Regents Professor & Chair, Political
Science Department, University of North Texas.
The
responses to the film and to Ms. Streit’s presentation were
positive. It became evident that both she and the film are excellent
at motivating and educating students to engage in politics.

Even
those who thought initially that the discussion was about Ross
Perot soon realized that the issue being dealt with was much larger
– the importance of citizen action to reclaim the democratic
process… I wish you continued success in your efforts to
get this important message more widely heard. I hope you will
be able in the future to do the same kind of examination of other
alternative parties. It has made me decide that I will never again
vote for “the lesser of two evils.” Onward!
Arlene O’Bryan, Clerk, Discussion Committee,
San Jose Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends
Your
clip was effective in mobilizing me to action – I will vote
in the primary on Tuesday… You definitely moved us.
