America's
Search for Peace
I
am pleased to announce a presentation entitled “America’s
Search for Peace” with documentary filmmaker Jo Streit.
As
Americans, we take great pride in our system of government. Yet
during this time of heightened military conflict, threatened civil
liberties, and ever growing budget deficits, many Americans feel
out of touch with a government that does not represent their views.
Visionary leaders advocating peaceful alternatives to the current
political landscape do exist, but they are rarely given an outlet
in the mainstream media.
There is a growing political movement that offers
viable nonviolent alternatives to the Bush Administration’s
policies of pre-emptive strikes, nuclear build-up, and endless
war. Congressman and presidential hopeful Dennis
Kucinich (D-OH) and Dr. John Hagelin, renowned physicist &
founder of the United States Peace Government are working to enact legislation and implement cost-effective programs backed
by scientific research that promote peace. They embody the transformation
in consciousness that is uniting millions of Americans in a mass
movement for peace and an evolution in the policies of the United
States government.
From
Jo Streit – “Every culture throughout millennium has
used the power of story and
myth to transfer knowledge and inspire new ways of being. Frankly,
I think that the United States is in desperate need of a new political
myth. We have more nonvoters than voters today, reflective of
the divisive national dialogue and the hopelessness that many
Americans feel to affect political change. However, exceptional
leaders with proven approaches to creating peace do exist. The
challenge is creating a platform for them to share their ideas
with the electorate which is the inspiration for my new documentary.
It
would be my honor to share the film and the work of these individuals
with your organization’s members. I welcome the opportunity
to be of service.”
By
the end of this lively, interactive session, participants will
be able to:
1. Identify the peaceful alternatives available to the U.S. government
and the American people,
2. Understand the current barriers in the media & electoral
process that exclude viable alternatives,
3. Advocate for policies that promote peace & the use of nonviolent
approaches to conflict resolution.
Jo
Streit has appeared on numerous national television and radio
programs, (C-SPAN, MSNBC, FOX NEWS, USA TODAY)

democracy. As the producer and director of the film Flirting with
Power, an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Ross Perot’s
presidential campaigns, she traveled the country screening the
