Your Vote is Your Voice

I am pleased to announce a presentation entitled, “Your Vote Is Your Voice."

By the end of this lively, interactive session, students will be able to:
1) Identify the history of the vote in America including the political movements of women, African Americans, and young people to secure the vote.
2) Understand the importance of voting elections, and
3) Register to Vote

Topics include:
*The political tactics used by women, Native Americans, and those in the Civil Rights movement to secure the vote.
*How voting impacts public policy and government spending
*Why the United States has one of the lowest voter turnouts among all democratic nations?
* Why is voting important in representative democracy?
*Why should all eligible citizens vote?
*How they can register to vote

This talk includes the screening of short media clips from the political documentaries of Jo Streit and is available as a:
• 30-minute presentation
• 1-hour keynote speech
• Part of a panel discussion

“Your Voice Is Your Vote” is the culmination of fourteen years of work producing and writing live broadcasts and educational videos. I’ve worked on numerous public education campaigns to encourage political participation and voter registration among young people including My Vote Counts, a project of the California Secretary of State and Keeping Youth Safe: Strategies That Work To Prevent Violence , a live 90-minute videoconference that engaged policymakers, law enforcement, youth advocates, and educators in a dialogue to continue state investment in violence prevention programs. www.preventviolence.org

I produced and directed the film Flirting with Power an exclusive behind the scenes look at Ross Perot’s independent campaigns in 1992 and 1996. This led to an invitation to give the keynote speeches at both factions of the Reform Party 2000 National Convention that was broadcast live on C-SPAN.
